Walking and hiking
A huge diversity of landscape – and unforgettable views
With a diverse landscape embracing steeply sloped vineyards, lush forest, river loops and romantic villages, the Mosel region offers walkers and hikers plenty to enjoy. From relaxing strolls and forest excursions, to historical and cultural routes or even steep climbing trails, there’s something for all ages and abilities. Enthusiasts and hobbyists might choose one of the special guided tours devoted to a particular theme, such as viticulture or Roman history. But whichever route you choose, you can expect fantastic views over the Mosel valley and exposure to the rich cultural history of one of Germany’s most beguiling regions.
Spring 2014 saw the opening of the 365km Moselsteig trail, divided in 24 stages. The town of Bernkastel-Kues is both start and endpoint of two stages of the trail, which has twice been officially recognised as one of Germany’s best long-distance hiking routes.
